t shirt designs

So I had an assignment at my work, and it was to design around 12 finalized images for tshirts and placement for each of them. I only had about 4 days to work on these because of school, homework, and still working at the shop at rogues. so these are most of the designs I came up with. I definetly like the drawn out ones better than the other photoshop looking ones, and i was told that they look alot better by everyone to. so i'm going to keep working with that kind of sketching and hopefully go more detailed, maybe drawing the out bigger to because i usually work on a smaller scale.
the drawings had to be rogues galleryish style, siince it was for them. and 3 other words I had to work from were...nautical, winter and astronomy. I started out working on wilderness looking ones, looking into hunting, moose and deer. even though I HATE hunting, but i'm really into the imagery right now.
so ya here are most of the images, there all one color prints.

This is a design I just worked on, not to much to say about it, i was just playing around trying to come up with ideas and this is what came out. alot is drawn out by hand then scanned in and the color is added in photoshop.

So me and my friend Tami have decided to design some posters together, this came about because I have been working on a map for my information design class about shipwrecks in New England, and mapping out where they have occurred, having alot of trouble finding already existing maps though. Tami is working on somewhat of a similiar project in her print making classes, making pieces about shipwrecks in new england and trying to tell a story in her pieces, and doing alot of research!
So we're going to try and colaborate on hopefully a few posters, new england themed mostly but we dont have any set regulations for ourselves, hopefully soon I will begin to design some and then we'll get back together and hopefully figure out some thing. Tis is at the very begining stages, but I really hope we get our shit together and have enough time to do these cus i'm pretty excited about it.

For my web design class we are starting to design web pages, for this one we were given a part of a story and had to design a page for it, its only one page and is suppose to link to everyone Else's in the class. Everything is hang drawn except for the white mice and the tree which was put through some filters in photo shop, the back round was originally going to stay as canvas or some type of fabric but I didn't like it after seeing it , so I changed it to black and white and messed with it a little so it just gave it a dirty look and fit more with the black and white look. the top image is basically the finished piece, except for the linking and the black birds which turn pink. so go look at the finished piece HERE.

This is a small piece I did for my patti Labelle portraits page. it is all transferred onto canvas using blending markers, I like the look of it, just wish it was darker, but the blending markers I was using were running out, and transferring ont canvas is alot harder than paper.

For my web design class we've been asked to make a blog, and base it on Patti Labelle, you know that older diva singer who sang that lady marmalade song, "the original". my concept is to study different aspects of her and try to do a different self portrait for each interesting thing i learn about her, we're suppose to update it every day for 2 week, so that means like 14 drawing, hopefully i'll be able to keep up and do that many, they wont be very detailed, just enough to stick with the concept, and hopefully something that I'm happy with showing. the website is HERE if you want to look at it. i might post some pics on here from it, depending on if i like them enough when i'm done.

Since I've been on christmas vacation I havent done to much art, I've been at home visiting my family and old friends I havent seen for awhile, all my stuff is at school anyways and in my studio. So hopefully in the next 2 weeks i'll get back into making some stuff, designing some things to later make into posters once I start working in the print shop at school.
I've just been playing around with making different images that say "kris johnsen . art" since I dont have a website besides this blog, But I want to create things that will attract people to the website, since mostly only friends look at this anyways. this is just one that I made in about 2 minutes in a commercial break from iron chef, which I guess theres a marathon on today, i'm pretty psyched since I dont have much else to do.

sketch book

Here's my sketchbook for the time being, i started in in feb i think, and honestly havent worked on it to much latly, its more of a finished work kind of sketchbook though, its not where i just doodle and do sketches, its more of a collage type of book of my work and other peoples art that i admire, so not all of this work is mine, so i'm not trying to take credit for it. and its only a sketchbook. its somthing that i get inspiration from and look at from time to time, i'm gonna keep working on it more but I've been so busy with school that i just havent had time, but it'll slowly get worked on, or maybe I'll just start a new sketchbook, I kind of want one witout white pages, like the brown recycled books, they seem more interesting to me right now, the pages have more depth in them and there all grainy, and that helps me out for some reason, its alot nicer to look at than just a white page, a white page is so unappealing.
